DAY 6 - FACEBOOK & GOOGLEPLEX CAMPUS VISITS

Facebook campus visit

Facebook is the world's largest social networking site. It has nearly 1.89 billion monthly active users all over the world. On our sixth day in Silicon Valley, we visited Facebook Campus (Building 15, Hacker Way). Two welcoming hosts showed us around the campus and shared their experiences working at Facebook. Although it was a huge campus, people seemed to know each other well, maybe because they have a strong community. Oh yeah, the vending machines that sold tech supplies were my definitely favorite thing here.

This display will show the number of Facebook users in the world. In Malaysia, there's about 13 millions of Facebook users. Isn't it cool?

Facebook Hacker Way. Sometimes, makertorn will be organised here for Facebook staffs to create things.

A special vending machine in Facebook. You can get office supplies and electronics here!

Googleplex Campus Visit

We then headed to Googleplex at Mountain View. Googleplex is the corporate headquarters complex of Google. Two Malaysian employees, David and Kai Boon, hosted our visit. While touring around the campus, Kai Boon shared with us the "20% Project," an initiative that encouraged Google employees to allocate 20% of their paid work time to pursue their passion projects. I was surprised when I learned that Gmail was created under this project.

Lunch at Charlie's Cafe

At noon, we had our lunch in Charlie's Cafe, enjoying a vast variety of food from different cultures. I love the Mexican tacos and the rockfish sushi.
